“Cure”

Embellishments & Techniques: I dyed the bra then needle felted the cups and side pieces. The bird was needle felted and appliquéd. The yarn was hand sewn in place. The frame is a foam core board covered with wet felted created fabric.

Artist’s Statement: While I worked on the braziere, I thought of my friends who have lost the battle and also those who are confronting it. The bird in flight is carrying a message of hope for a cure. I hope this endeavor can raise awareness and lead us to a cure.

Artist’s Statement: Becky and I were brought together because of our illness of breast cancer. We are both survivors for over 5 years. We have been each other’s rock through our ups and downs and struggles with breast cancer. Whether we lived in the same city or 500 miles away, we were always there for each other and grew a very strong bond and friendship over the years. That’s why we say there is a strong power with pink. Our braziere was done in all different shades of pink which represents breast cancer and what can come out of an ugly disease (friendship)!

Oct 31 - Nov 1 at Temple Concord

Temple Concord hosted the exhibit over the weekend in their mansion. It's the last weekend of the touring exhibit - next Friday they will be auctioned off to raise money for the American Cancer Society and Encore Plus. The Brazieres will be at the UHS Stay Healthy at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, NY this week - Monday through Thursday during business hours.

Also, on Monday, Nov 2nd the California Grill restaurant of Vestal (next to JoAnn Fabrics on the parkway) will be hosting a 10% of proceeds fund raiser. Just mention it to your server, and the proceeds will go to Brazieres For A Cure.

Oct 30 - Binghamton University

Earlier this month, while I was at the Pink Tea, I met Bridget McCane, of Binghamton University's Health Services. We set up a date at the University to display the Brazieres for the students. We were in Tillman Lobby and had a wonderful time - many student organizations had tables set up in the lobby also. Thanks to all the students who helped out that day!

Cooperstown, NY - Art Association Gallery

The Cooperstown Art Gallery hosted an All Pink Opening Reception on Friday, October 23rd - I went up to the event and met several of the artists who made entries. Janet Erway and Cory Sharer dressed up in fun pink dresses, and all the food was pink! It was a lovely evening.
