Brazieres For A Cure on Fox 40 News

Greetings, this morning Ashley from Fox 40 News in Binghamton called to see if they could interview me and other participants, and possibly see some of the entries for Brazieres For A Cure for their evening news program at 6pm. Since all the brazieres were down at the Van Zandbergen Photography studio, we all met there at 1:00.

Kirk and Lesli were busy photographing when I arrived. Sew Many Quilts owner and participant, Joyce Paulsen was there, along with Judy Zurenda and Cheryl Miller of the Broome County Offices, both of them had made entries. Crystal Lown, program coordinator for Encore Plus and her assistant Kathleen came by also. Sara Delafield and Ruth Manzer from the UHS Stay Healthy offices (Oakdale Mall near Sears) and participants stopped by too.

It was fun to see them look at all the brazieres sorted out on the floor, hanging from rods, stored in bins and being photographed. Most of them had not see all the entries before.

Lesli and Kirk have been working with graphic artist Carol Grassi to have a posted made f all the entries. I will have more on that as things get firmed up.

The Fox News 40 at 6pm aired - and there we were! You can read the text and see the video shown at their web site: http://www.wicz.com/ under the title Brazieres For A Cure.

VZ's Studio

I stopped down to the Van Zandbergen photography studios yesterday with my trusty sidekick Issac (my oldest son) to drop off the last of the entries - a few needed some TLC to be travel ready. Kirk and Lesli had brazieres everywhere! They had them sorted by the color background they were going to shoot them against. The "Got Milk" entry by Lee Ann Adolf of Endwell was being photographed when we got there. Kirk even brought out his harmonica to play a tune for Issac.

Brazieres For A Cure Poster

Judging - Sew Many Brazieres!

The judges - Gina Chapman, Sharon Stroud and Lorry Chwazik holding up the ribbons, and during the judging. Afterwards, I held up my entry - dedicated to "Etta" Kania and Ann Dinoff - the whole reason I started this project. Lorry posted a couple of photos, under the judging tag, at her website http://quiltsbylorry.shutterfly.com

The winners will be announced on September 4th here on the blog. The ribbons will be on display during the exhibition, along with the winning entries. After the Auction and Closing Reception (November 6th at the Binghamton YWCA), the winners will get their ribbons and awards. The groups, businesses that donated the awards are listed in a previous blog entry, and will be updated as donations are made.

The entries are now at the photographers - my son Isaac and I brought them down to Kirk and Lesli of Van Zandbergen Photography in Binghamton (http://www.vzphoto.com) earlier today.

Quilt Shop or Lingerie Shop?

Tables and tables of entries - I asked Joyce if this was a quilt shop or lingerie shop! Getting ready to be judged - I'm glad I don't have to choose! Gina, Lorry and Sharon have their work cut out for them!

Photo Collage 5 of Entries

Here are a few more entries - we have 82 in total. Thank you everyone who took the time to participate in this project. The judging took place on Tuesday, August 25 at Sew Many Quilts in Johnson City, NY. (http://SMQuilts.com)

Photo Collage 4 - Copperstown Art Association Plus Others

Here are some more images - mostly from the Cooperstown area (Art Association Gallery), plus a few from O'Susannah's in Watkins Glen (thank you Pam for getting them) and a few from Sew Many Quilts in Johnson City. There are also some photos sent to me by the artists of their creations. Just to let you know, the extended deadline is August 20th. Late entries need to be brought to Sew Many Quilts or contact me for other arrangements. It looks like we will have around 80 entries, so it should be an exciting exhibit! I hope to see everyone and meet the artists that donated their time and talent to this project. You have my heartfelt thanks!

Photo Collage 3 - Quilters Corner in Ithaca, NY

Most of these came from Quilter's Corner in Ithaca, NY. I can't believe it, but someone actually made my favorite bird: the Blue-footed Boobie, from the Galápagos Islands! Thanks to Gloria and her hubby for picking them up.

Braziere Collage Number Two - SMQ

Here is another collage of entries - submitted to Sew Many Quilts in Johnson City, NY. The plan is to head out to Cooperstown this coming Friday to get the entries at the Cooperstown Art Association Gallery. Again, thanks to everyone who participated in the project, a heartfelt thanks goes out to each any every one of you!

Collage Shots of the Brazieres - SMQ One

Here is a collage of entries - as I collect the paperwork, I am taking a snap of each of the entries. These were taken at Sew Many Quilts in Johnson City, NY. I will be heading out to O'Susannah's in Watkins Glen and Quilter's Corner in Ithaca tomorrow - pending weather and kids illness (a yucky summer flu). Cheers to all who completely their entires!

Brazieres Hanging at the Photographers

Our photographers, Kirk and Lesli Van Zandbergen of Van Zandbergen Photography in Binghamton, NY (http://www.vzphoto.com/) are storing some of the entries, as they plan out their strategy for photographing all the entries. The one with the flowers in front is decorated with yo-yo flowers made by using the Clover yo-yo maker - very cool!

The Braziere Wall at Sew Many Quilts

Here are some of the entries hanging on the wall at Sew Many Quilts in Johnson City, NY. If you recall, a gentleman in my quilt guild made an entry, and as per our agreement, I will be wearing it at our first meeting this September when we start our 09-10 year. Can you guess which one it is? I'll give you a hint - it's got icicles on it - Colder than a Witches you-know what!
